The ASLO and NSF funded Ecological Dissertations in the Aquatic Sciences (Eco-DAS) symposia is an incredible opportunity for new PhDs, postdocs, and early career faculty to build their networks and develop a manuscript with an interdisciplinary team to address knowledge gaps in aquatic ecology.  Thanks to Dr. Paul Kemp for making this opportunity possible for so many over the years! 

Congratulations to Joseph for his paper acceptance in Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology. Our work "Mercury exposure in two fish trophic guilds from protected and ASGM-impacted reservoirs in Zimbabwe and possible risks to human health" with co-authors Dr. Trevor Dube (Midlands State University, Zimbabwe) and Dr. Don Stewart (SUNY ESF) provides some of the first mercury data for Zimbabwean fishes in a region impacted by artisanal and small scale gold mining (ASGM), an important source of mercury affecting the tropics and the globe.  

Congratulations to Abby for her her successful application to the 2023 LOREX program through the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography! This is a wonderful opportunity for her to work with Drs. Joanne Oakes and Bradley Eyre  (Southern Cross University, Australia) on nitrogen uptake in benthic freshwater cyanobacteria. Thank you to ASLO for this incredible student research exchange program!

Congratulations to Hadis for publishing this exciting technique  to assess mercury exposure in an individual fish over its entire lifetime! Our paper "Tracking fish lifetime exposure to mercury using eye lenses" with co-authors Dr. Richard Kraus (USGS, Great Lakes Science Center), Ann Marie Gorman (Ohio Department of Natural Resources), and Dr. Karin Limburg (SUNY ESF) is available online in Environmental Science & Technology Letters.

Congratulations to Jeremiah for winning a third place undergraduate poster award at his first scientific conference presentation! His poster "Assessing methylmercury exposure of plethodontid salamanders in New York State" with our co-authors Drs. Brad Cosentino, Kristen Brubaker, and Lisa Cleckner (Hobart and William Smith Colleges) was presented at the SETAC North America 43rd Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA.
